What attracted you to a career in Marketing? 

I’ve always been interested in social media and promoting for independent businesses using digital media so I knew I would benefit from having career in marketing

Tell us about your route into marketing

Last year I did an apprenticeship in Business and Administration and that’s when I first started to have a go at Digital Marketing. I wasn’t meant to be doing anything to do with Digital Marketing but a customer wanted a brand new website and a blog as well as a new logo and I was the only one capable so I gave it a go and the guy loved it. I’ve now moved jobs to Stratique Marketing doing a Digital Marketing apprenticeship where all I do now is marketing and it’s so enjoyable.

What does your apprenticeship involve? How has it benefited you?

My apprenticeship is varied because the business I work for is an agency which gives me more of an insight into different strategies depending on the type of business I’m working on. It mostly involves helping the other marketing executives with similar jobs to what they’re doing so I’m actually working at the same level as them which I find rewarding.

Briefly talk us through a typical day in your current job

A typical day would be checking through the emails first for any jobs assigned to me and check on Workflow Max, a task manager tool, for any tasks. At the moment my most common tasks include copywriting, uploading to WordPress, creating email marketing using mailchimp, and squeeze pages using Leadpages. I regularly get involved with client meetings and, of course, I make a cuppa for everyone at some point in the day!

What are the biggest challenges you have faced throughout your marketing career and how have you overcome the?

I wasn’t so sure about using MailChimp, especially with the responsibility of sending out an email to thousands of people but I overcome this fear by getting my colleagues to proof my work and I have developed confidence in my work.

What would you describe as your personal strengths and assets that have ensured success in your career so far?

I am definitely more knowledgeable in WordPress and SEO especially. I now help out colleagues with using WordPress when they’re unsure about the software. I can now use plugins confidently and I also believe I am strong at making engaging Email Marketing content.

If you could give a single piece of advice to someone looking to get into their own marketing career what would it be?

If you’re unsure about what sector of marketing to get into or what industry, start by working with a marketing agency, there’s so many variations with the type of client and the tasks you’ll be asked to do – it’s never a boring day.
